so wonderful being at "home" (Zimbabwe) for a few days....... my blog will not be too active whilst here, due to 16 hour power cuts daily. But just had to share these incredible Amaryliss flowering at my parents home. From as far back as I can remember, my Mom always had these incredible flowers, bringing such joy to all around.

Tete burning :( the time of the year which saddens me so.........too much burning and smoke in the air. But all is forgotten when the first rains arrive, and the "green transformation" happens............

the full moon was unusually incredible on monday night........It was very red in Tete, am sure due to all the dust in the air......... This is not a great picture as didn't use a tripod...... but just to show the colour and then had fun with photoshop in diffusing the glow........

our trip to Chimoio was certainly made a lot brighter by spotting a few of these gorgeous trees (Stereospermum kunthianum (Pink Jacaranda) ) in full bloom.We drove for 5 hours through charred and blackened "gorgeous" Mozambique countryside. It's that "burning" time of the year again....... Much like our lives - we can always find beauty in the midst of the ashes, if we take the time to look for it........

on a hot, sunny day - this "water tank" for a local neighbourhood, becomes "paradise" for many :)

the many names of the cloth the woman of Africa use.....In Eastern Africa its KANGA. Malawi its CHITENJE. Mozambique its CAPULANA. South Africa its KIKOI. Zimbabwe its a ZAMBIA. Ghana its KENTE. ............The different colours have meanings too.......BLACK - spiritual energy....BLUE - peace, love.....GREEN - growth......GOLD - wealth.....MAROON - healing......PINK - gentleness.....PURPLE - feminity....RED - sacrificial rites, political.......SILVER - serenity.....WHITE - purity.....YELLOW - royalty, fertility

Fruit of the Kei-apple tree being sold in different stages at the local market..... The fruit is called "masaneca" in Tete.......while researching the real name on the net, found some very interesting medicinal uses for the tree (which grows very prolifically here) The fruits are eaten to overcome biliousness, nausea and diarrhea. The leaf decoction is taken to halt diarrhea. Powdered, dried leaves are employed to relieve bronchitis and coughs. The leaves and bark are applied on bleeding gums and aching teeth, and the bark infusion is gargled to alleviate hoarseness. Pulverized roots are poulticed on sores and skin eruptions and held in the mouth to soothe toothache. Great stuff, as not always easy to find a doctor around these parts......
